It’s All in the Details (Part 2 of 2)

21

Well, folks, this is it… the last photo recap of our wedding. Next, I’ll share with you our budget breakdown, and then it’s on to our Zihuatanejo honeymoon. After that, who knows!

My first detail recap showed you the people and accessories that gave celebration special warmth and feeling.

Today’s post focuses on some of the details that made our wedding unique: DIY projects, decorations, food and beverage, transportation, et cetera. I’ve picked lots of colorful photos to share each detail with you and, wherever possible, linked you to my past posts with more information or other external resources. Enjoy!

It’s All in the Details (Part 1 of 2)

0

Today I’m delighted to share with you the first of two detail-oriented recap posts. These are sort of like recaps of the recap – focused on all the outfits, accessories, DIY projects, decorations, and edible/drinkable pieces of our wedding. Many of you have asked me questions about specific things that we wore, made, or did. Well, these detail posts are the best place to look for all that information, and to see new photos of all the little things that made our wedding day special.

Check it out!

Paper Source Programs

After our Seattle Wedding Bee meetup in July, I stopped by the Paper Source in Bellevue to brainstorm programs. I had in mind that I wanted to just print two long, rectangular pages on cover stock, round the corners, punch holes in them, and secure them with ribbon. That would have been simple enough, but Paper Source tempted me with pre-punched khaki-colored backings (available in packs of 25 for $10) that would save me the hassle of buying a corner-rounder and the time of rounding 200 corners. Yes!

I got a couple of the khaki backings, some 8.5 x 11 paper in Luxe Cream, chocolate brown ribbon, and a tiny hole punch. I was all set to go.

Cordially, of course

Guess what came in the mail this Wednesday afternoon after ANOTHER exciting round of Where is Kat’s X?

Our awesome letterpressed invitations!

Unfortunately, the Post Office had decided that “Priority” mail was not really a priority and we spent a few long days hand-wringing while waiting for them to arrive. After I stayed home and accosted the empty-handed mailman yet again, we called the post office to file a claim and they located the package in Olympia, WA.

After his 10 AM visit (sans invitations), our gracious postman actually went back to the depot to look for my package and returned at 4PM to deliver it directly to our door. I didn’t even ask! He must have seen the desperation in my eyes when I ran out to meet him with face cream slathered all over myself and taken pity. Honestly, I thought he’d flee in terror never to return. Ever.

Going Postal

After some deliberation, I’ve decided how to use the vintage mailbox that I purchased in Kalispell.

First, I was considering using it as a card box. Then, I was considering using it as an alternative to a guest book. Then, I realized I could just as well do both!

What we’ll do is set the mailbox on a table or secure it near a table on a post, with a sign that says something like “for your cards and well-wishes.” Near the mailbox, we’ll place a nice, fine-tipped pen and stacks of these…

…an assortment of pre-addressed, stamped, vintage replica Glacier National Park and Montana postcards.

I would never have known that these awesome postcards existed, but that I was given a book of them by Justin’s dad after our engagement. He’d removed one… a postcard with the image of Gunsight Lake (where Justin proposed) and written us a message on the back, “Here on August 26, 2006, Justin proposed to Kat! And she accepted! Congratulations!”

I was also able to get the postcards for half-off retail price because they’re printed at FarCountry press, the Montana publisher that owns Montana magazine, where I interned in the summer of 2004.

After our guests put the postcards in the box, we’ll remove all of the wedding-gift cards and give the postcards to Justin’s dad without reading them. Our plan is to have him mail them to us, one by one, over the coming weeks and months so we can receive a stream of happy letters as newlyweds. [Hopefully they won't all be filled with criticism and sour-grapes advice as I've heard some other brides' wish-bowls have been.]

What do you think?

Invitations at Summer Camp

Our invitations are off at summer camp in letterpress land, better known as Twin Ravens Press. Here’s a sneak peek at the process thus far:

Stacks of paper for our invites, RSVPs, Thank You cards, and more. You can see the envelopes for both, as well as the red and brown papers that will be used to make our sashes. The canisters in the upper right are our inks!

Favorite Favors

Over at Wedding Bee, they’re voting on my favor choices.

So far, cookies are winning by a landslide!

I’ve also gotten two good suggestions: Using some of the Glacier Park photos I’ve taken over the years to make my own magnets or coasters, and look at Montana huckeberry products (I considered this early on but tossed it due to price, quality, and not supporting locality).

I’m looking into both of those options and also considering packaging a packet of seeds with a few cookies for yumminess AND sentimentality.

Montana-Flavored Favors

Now that you have an idea of what it’s like in Polebridge, maybe you can help me figure out which of the following favors from the funky Polebridge Mercantile would best serve as a memento for our guests. Our maximum budget is $500, which equates to $5 per person (for 100 guests max), though it would be nice to spend less and still give a nice gift. We’ve got several options (below) in or around that price range…

Off to press!

I’ve finished proofing our invites, which means they’re off to the press. Hopefully, they should be back to us in a week or two. I’m really looking forward to seeing them in physical form. Here’s a sneak peak (click for larger):
