A wider layout for 600 pixel images, and a new header and front page. I’ll be updating the rest of the content to reflect our married status soon.
Apologies if the images don’t display properly in some of the posts below. I’m trying to display Blogger/Picasa images at 600px wide and they keep showing up and then disappearing. Before tinkering with it any more tonight, I’m going to let it sit until tomorrow to see if it’s Blogger performing maintenance or something else even screwier.
NOTE: Images are back to 400px wide for the moment because Blogger won’t allow me to display the 600px images as a source. I’ll port the images to flickr this weekend for display, and images going forward will be 600px wide. Huttah!

Well everyone, we did it! The whole wedding went off without a hitch, thanks to our amazing planners… and despite the fact that it poured for a good 45 minutes. (The weather was eerily well-behaved.) But I’ll share more details about that, the ceremony, the reception, and everything else when we get back from a week at Amuleto in Zihuatanejo.
To sate your appetite, here are a few AMAZING teaser shots sent to us by the lovely Nicole Tavenner of Piknik Studios:

In a stunning display of stupidity, I did not check with the Park Service to see when Glacier’s free hiker shuttles stop running for the season. It turns out that the last day to use the shuttle service is LABOR DAY. I should have figured.
I am so, so sorry about this. What a major party foul.
If you were planning on using the free hiker shuttle as a mode of transportation around the park, please consider carpooling with friends and family at the wedding, or renting a car from the Kalispell Airport and Amtrak station.
The classic red jammer tours will still be running while you are in the Park, but they are a paid, narrated tour, not a method of transport for hikers.
Again, our apologies. We were really looking forward to this service being available for our guests.
NOTE: The free hiker shuttle is separate from the wedding shuttle. We are still having a shuttle from Park lodging to and from Polebridge for the wedding & reception.

Today is the last day to drop your RSVP cards in the mail. Look at that lovely prepaid postage… see how it beckons!
If you find that your mailbox seems impossibly far away, don’t fret. You can RSVP right here. Right now. Online.
AMAZING!
And please RSVP even if we know you’re coming… we need to know your food choices, your shuttle preference, and where you are staying so we can give you further information. Thanks!

Just a heads up – As of this week, the rooms being reserved for our wedding have been released and are no longer held in our names.
First, we apologize that our invitations took so long to reach you. We didn’t intend for them to arrive after the room-release date! But there were unavoidable delays and we couldn’t circumvent the Park Service’s silly policy that rooms can only be held until 60 days prior to an event. (As is, they gave us 2 extra weeks out of the kindness of their hearts!)
But, friends, there is no reason to panic! Just because rooms are no longer held in our names does not mean that there aren’t any rooms for you. If you would like to book rooms at the recommended hotels, Lake McDonald Lodge or Apgar Village Inn, you can still contact our helpful event coordinator, Pam Taylor, at (406) 226-5631 or by emailing ptaylor@glacierparkinc.com.
When you call, be sure to specify that you are a guest at the Ortland-Speyer wedding, and Pam will do her best to take care of you! If, for some reason, you cannot reach Pam directly, call Glacier Park Inc. at (406) 892-2525, to make your reservation. Please also specify that they should note you are guest for our wedding. We apologize, but there is no discounted rate (another Park policy).
If rooms in the Park lodges are sold out on the dates you’d like to stay, fear not! There are plenty of other options. Visit our handy-dandy lodging page to see a list of other hotels/lodges in the area along with room rates.
And don’t forget to mail us your RSVP or RSVP online!

I’ve been monitoring airfare from Michigan to Kalispell via Yapta’s fare tracker and it recently dropped to about $480 (from a starting price of $650). This fare may drop more, or it may rise again toward the date. I will update as necessary.
Here are the three lowest fares and respective airlines on arriving different dates and departing on Sunday, September 7. All searches via Kayak.com:
August 31-Sept 7:

Sept 3-Sept 7:

Sept 4-Sept 7:

Sept 5-Sept 7:

**NOTE: Combinations of different airlines can be used for favorable departure and arrival times, but this may increase price. Flying out on Monday seems to keep it in the same price range too.

I’m so excited that I can’t sit still. We just booked our honeymoon! Over the last week we’ve gone from “well, I dunno,” to “we have to have one, but where?” to “this, this is it.” And today we reserved rooms and tickets. I can’t wait to tell you all about it. I can’t wait to BE there!

I’m currently updating the site in order to better serve our guests once they receive their invitations. I want the pertinent info to be very easy to find for the most technologically challenged people (who will probably call us anyway!).
With that in mind, I moved this blog to the wordpress directory and created a splash page at the top level. I’ve also updated the sidebar hierarchy and am working on updated content for all of the informational pages. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or if anything important seems to be missing. I have yet to update the travel, location, and lodging pages to reflect current information. I’ll probably have these completed sometime this weekend.

I am very pleased to announce that our wedding invitations are in pre-print revisions and will soon be finalized and mailed! We hope to have them posted by the middle of the month, so keep watch!
We’ve set the RSVP date at July 30th, but please book your lodging before then if you know you are attending. The park service will ONLY hold blocked rooms at the Lake McDonald Lodge and Apgar Village Inn until July 18th. After that, rooms will be released to the public.
To reserve rooms, fill out and fax or email this Word Document form or call 1-406-892-2525 and tell them you’d like to book a room for the Speyer-Ortland wedding. Blocked rooms are available for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
If you would like to stay at a hotel but cannot secure park accommodation or would like more inexpensive lodging, there are many options in nearby Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Whitefish. (Click the city names to be taken to a google maps results page listing hotels/motels in the area.)
You are also welcome to camp in one of the park’s many beautiful campgrounds. There are four (Apgar, Fish Creek, Sprague Creek, and Avalanche) near the Lake and hotel lodging. I’m planning a detailed post on campground amenities, fees, reservations, and more… so stay tuned!
