ACCESS TO GLACIER NATIONAL PARK
Glacier is served by the Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, airport code GPIA. The airport is 24 miles, approximately 30 minutes by car, from Glacier’s West Entrance. Beyond that, park lodging is only another few miles.

There are direct flights to GPIA from Seattle, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, and St. Paul. Most other flights should only require one connection.

Tips for Traveling by Plane:

  • Use Farecast.com to predict fares, Yapta, to track them, and Kayak to find the lowest fares on any airline
  • The Glacier Park International Airport offers Airport Shuttles into the park, if you would like to avoid renting a car (you won’t need one!)
  • If you want to rent a car, the airport offers Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Alamo

Glacier is also easily accessible by train via the West Glacier/Belton Amtrak station, located only 1/2 mile from the park’s West Entrance. Glacier Park provides shuttles for train travelers who call (406) 892-2525

Amtrak’s prize jewel, the Empire Builder, arrives daily (in the morning) to this station from the East and West. Use Amtrak’s fare builder to book your trip, and don’t forget to check their weekly specials for potential discounts.

The train trip is long (15 hours from Seattle, 31 hours from Chicago), but very beautiful, and you can enjoy the ride even more if you book a sleeping car.

If you are driving to Glacier from the West OR East, be sure to map your directions with Google Maps. The drive from Seattle takes about 9 hours and is our favorite “rite of passage.”

Unfortunately, we recently discovered that Glacier Park’s free hiker shuttle will not be running past Labor Day. We recommend carpooling with family and friends or renting a car from the airport or Amtrak station to explore the park. Classic red jammer tours will still be running, but be aware that these are paid, narrated, sightseeing tours, not shuttles for hikers!

ACCESS TO POLEBRIDGE
Polebridge is located only 26 miles from Glacier’s West Entrance and about 30 miles from the Lake McDonald Lodge. The drive to Polebridge is slow and bumpy, about 45 minutes, if not a little longer. But there aren’t any stoplights!

We will be providing a free (and optional) shuttle service for our wedding guests to and from Polebridge. The shuttles will depart from Lake McDonald Lodge and stop at Apgar Village Inn to pick up more guests before continuing to Polebridge. At the end of the night, the shuttles will return via the same route. Shuttles will ONLY stop at Lake McDonald Lodge and Apgar Village Inn, but any guests (even those not lodging in the park) are welcome to use the shuttle service. Kindly RSVP so we know how many buses to reserve.

Guests are welcome to drive their own vehicles, but be cautioned that the road to Polebridge is largely unpaved and may be rough in places.

To access Polebridge from inside Glacier National Park, follow Going to the Sun Road until it intersects with Camas Road (left a the T intersection from the West Entrance, straight at the T intersection from Lake McDonald Lodge). Follow Camas Road for 12 miles until it connects with North Fork Road. Head right on North Fork Road and drive about 12 miles until you see a sign for Polebridge. Then, take another right and you’re there!
